How I Shop Red Carpet Looks on a Budget…

I have been really interested in red carpet looks recently… And its because I am in planning mode. My 30th Birthday is coming up in 9 weeks and I want an amazing outfit to feel all glam and laaaaaa.

I know laaa isn’t really a word but its more like a sound… just all lalalaaaaa. Do you know what I mean?

Or maybe not ahaha.

I usually have an idea or inspiration in mind (for going out out outfits) and I go direct to it but for my 30th birthday I am drawing a blank.

I am not sure if its because I don’t feel like I’ll be 30 soon. Or maybe its because in general I haven’t been feeling overly inspired by outfit ideas like I usually am.

So… when you hit a block what do you do? Look up amazing Red Carpets to give you the glam and glitz passion flowing through your brain.

As soon as I saw all the Little Mix girls red carpet looks I was transfixed. I love them all. I think Perrie’s blue dress on her looks absolutely breathtaking. And I love the cut and material… however not very me.

Leigh Anne’s co-ord is a beautiful colour and looks very classy – but it isn’t very practical. I knew that if I wore that for my night out I would feel waaaay to self conscious. Therefore I wouldn’t enjoy myself.

I want to feel strong, empowered and amazing.

So even though I love all these looks the only two that I would actually wear would be Jesy’s and Jade’s outfits.

In fact Jade’s sheer white dress makes me think of Holly Scanlan’s (Dundee designer) vibe.

But I am very clumsy, so wearing white for me is always a gamble – I have done it before but I think that was luck!

Winnie Harlow‘s maxi floral look is just wow… I instantly thought of a fairy or an elf… not sure why. I just thought of this look giving an ethereal, worldly vibe.

The corseted detail with the full floral dress is very gone with the wind type of feels.

I am quite short though so sometimes i feel when i wear long floral dresses I just end up getting lost in it.

The only downside I have about a look like this, for me, is that I am going on a strict health kick to prepare me for the big 3-0 so I think a small part of me will want to show off all my hard work. If you got it, flaunt it right?

However I feel with it being summer and me being a June baby it might all go together well yeah?

I know what your thinking… I am reading waaaaaaaaay to much into this… and I know I am. But I can’t help it ahaha.

Lucy Boynton looks absolutely stunning in this golden dress. She makes me think of dream girls mixed up with grecian goddess.

I am thinking 80s glam with her edgy modern hair.

I think this look is quite classic with a touch of subtle glam. Not too in your face but understated yet eye catching.

Although when I showed this look to Jack he said, she looks ridiculous. ahaha guy opinion eh? I think it’s because with men they need to see it on front of them. Not on a hanger or in a photo.

The reason why I say this is because when I asked Jack to imagine me in it he said he thought it would look ok. Which from that extreme initially negative reaction to a neutral/slightly positive one is a nice change.

I couldn’t find full gold gowns that I liked, I liked the gold detailing in these dresses. Especially the Flounce London sequin mini dress!

Jeannie Mai looks very regal  in this green Jacquard gown. Like a queen or a princess. They way the gown sits and how she is posing just all screams elegance to me.

I think the green and gold mixed together looks so good with her skin tone.

This gown is breathtaking. The only thing is, I think it would be quite heavy and potentially difficult to move around in?

Does that make sense? Anytime I’ve worn something that is jacquard I’ve found it to be quite heavy and can be a bit blocky on my figure.

Although seeing Jeannie Mai in this gown has totally made me rethink my earlier assumption!

I’ve picked out a few different possibilities below. I really like the satin jacquard dresses. As they look comfortable to move around in. The other thicker dresses I like cause they are off the shoulder and have that oriental feel.

Julia Michaels sporting this cowl neck funky dress. I love how the design on the dress matches/coincides with her tattoos.

Im not sure if that was intended but I love it.

As you’ve probably guessed from my LFW Part 2 Review I love, love vibrant textiles or patchwork textiles.

This satin cowl neck dress is just so fabulous. Think this would be such a funky cool style of dress to wear for my 30th.

I admire regal and glam looks, but I am not sure if its really me. Although I am going the full hog – getting my make up done, nails done. So if you know anyone that can do make up for asian eyes then please let me know in the comments below.

In conclusion…

I can’t make up my mind as to which dress/look/feel to go for.

I want to plan ahead and get my stuff together but at the same time the thought of planning gives me anxiety – planning to much and then it goes to shit.

But lets not dwell on the negatives on planning ahead. But think of how much fun it is to feel organised and together.

I think I’ll order a few of these today, since I’ve just got paid and I can afford a wee splurge.(Thank god for return policies though!)

Hope you guys like my Shop Style edits. I do them at the end of every month. If you have any looks you like me to find or ideas you want me to give my styling take on then please let me know!

Thanks for reading as always my lovelies.
